The Department of English organized A Two Day National Seminar on India in Indian writing in English on 9.2.12 and 10.2.12.Shri A.Srinivasan Founder-Chairman of Dhanalakshmi Srinivasan group presided over the function .Dr.K.Chellappan former director, State Institute of English, Chennai and Dr.V.B.Vinod, Associate Professor, Department of Humanities, National Institute of Technology, Trichy were the resource persons.
Dr.K.Chellapan, inaugurated the function on 9.2.12.Ms.R.Dulasi Head, Department of English welcomed the gathering. Ms.R.Shanmugapriya, Assistant Professor, Department of English, presented a thematic introduction for this national seminar. Dr.K.Chellappan mainly emphasized on Indian fiction and poetry. He quoted that according to him history becomes fiction and fiction becomes history. He also described about the themes of various Indian writers existing today. In his speech, he also added that Indian speech should be like a Indian without depending on American and British English (accent).Dr.Vinod, Associate Professor, Department of Humanities, National Institute of Technology,Trichy, delivered the key note address. He addressed on post modern writers. He focused on theworks of Mulk Raj Anand and Salman Rusdie.He also quoted the vernacular writers of Canada,specifically on “Samsara” written by Anandhamoorthy and various Malayalam writers. Finallyhe talked about Arundhathi Roy and her works. The I plenary session started with Dr .Beatrice D,Couto,Associate Professor, Department of English ,Lady Doak College ,Madurai. She focused on Eco criticism in Ruskin Bonds works.
The Second day of the National seminar started with the Speech and Presentation of Dr.Catherin Edward Dean of Arts, Department of English, Holy Cross College, Trichy.She emphasizedon Indian mythology in Indian writings. She explained that mythology is a real one which thewriters are handling in their works. She mainly focused on works of Mulk Raj Anand and Raja Rao in order to bring out their use of mythology. The characters handled by various writersdepicted the real mythological characters. Ms.K.Pradeepa, Assistant Professor, Department of English proposed vote of thanks. Dr .RM.Meenakshi,college Advisor and Mrs.K.Bhagirathi,Principal i/c felicitated the gathering.
